Overview of Our Branch
We are a volunteer organization of parents and professionals who are concerned about literacy. Our focus is to support and benefit individuals, adults, students, families, educators, and professionals dealing with learning differences, including dyslexia.
The So CA Tri-Counties Branch of the International Dyslexia Association endeavors to bring researchers and relevant literacy topics to the public and to share information regarding literacy, including dyslexia, via media, personal contact, and events focused on literacy
To build a community that facilitates literacy success through appropriate recognition, understanding, and strategy implementation appropriate to dyslexia
- Populations served include educators, parents, individuals with dyslexia, and those who share their lives.
- Geographic areas include the communities of Riverside County, San Bernardino County, parts of Orange county, parts of East San Gabriel Valley, and Southern Nevada
As established by IDA, we believe that:
- All individuals have the right to achieve their potential
- Individual learning abilities can be strengthened, and
- Social, educational and cultural barriers to language acquisition and use must be removed
Our Primary Functions
- Sponsor educational conferences and free community meetings
- Provide resources and referrals
- Serve as a liaison to cutting-edge researchers and their results related to literacy development
We provide scholarships to teachers and parents to attend the Annual International Dyslexia Association Conference or one of our local Conferences.
We publish a general newsletter in the Spring and Fall; sponsor an annual spring conference; and sponsor monthly webinars. Additionally, we hold other events periodically.
Who We Are
In 1984, several Inland Empire professionals and parents determined a need existed for an organization to disseminate accurate & current information on dyslexia. We contacted the national IDA to become a Branch. IDA states its purpose as:
To pursue and provide the most comprehensive range of information and services that address the full scope of dyslexia and related difficulties in learning to read and write in a way that creates hope, possibility and partnership; so that every individual has the opportunity to lead a productive and fulfilling life, and society benefits from the resource that is liberated.
We are now the So. Cal. Tri-Counties Branch and a variety of professionals, parents and adults with dyslexia comprise the all-volunteer Board of Directors representing the Riverside, San Bernardino and Orange Counties here in Southern California.
The So. Cal. Tri-Counties Branch actively promotes effective teaching practices and related educational intervention strategies for any individual with a language-based learning disability. We are committed to the dissemination of research-based knowledge that supports multi-sensory structured language teaching.
We invite you to join our mailing list: receive Newsletters and Email announcements on new research and our events. To join, send us your name, address, phone, and email; or use the “Contact Us” form on our web site.
