Webinar: Dyslexia: My SuperPower!

June 3, 2021 @ 6:00 pm

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

In this webinar, “Dyslexia: My SuperPower!” our presenter will be Caitlyn “Sissy” Varela, a 10 year old student.

As a 3rd grader, she was diagnosed with dyslexia in 2020.  She did not let dyslexia discourage her from her passion to read and write.  Instead, she embraced it as her “SuperPower”, using it as a source of motivation across all facets of her life.  Sissy shares her story of her initial struggles with school, her dyslexia diagnosis, and her newly discovered “SuperPower” that has propelled her to the top of her class and has inspired her to write a book, Doggy Daze: Jack and Princess”.  The proceeds from the sale of her book go to her newly established scholarship fund for dyslexic learners. This will be a fantastic webinar for students, parents, teachers and anyone else interested in the topic.

Caitlyn “Sissy” Varela was given her nickname “Sissy” by her two older brothers and their friends, schoolmates, and teammates when she was just a toddler as she was always the only girl in the group & was the boys’ favorite little sister. Now ten years old, Sissy has grown to become a very bright, hardworking, artistic, athletic, and dyslexic author. She is currently a 4th grader at St. Anne Catholic School in Laguna Niguel, CA. She excels in sports, including competitive club soccer and recently selected to the All-Star Basketball Team of the league she competes in. Sissy loves to surf and skateboard but always makes the time to enjoy her greatest passions, art and painting. Her diagnosis of dyslexia explained her early difficulties in school. She has embraced her dyslexia as a newly discovered ‘SuperPower’ that continues to propel her in all of her sports, activities, and in the classroom. Sissy has taken advantage of her gift of having a wonderfully crafted brain to maximize her potential. Since identifying her dyslexia, Sissy has been inspired to bravely share her story to help empower other dyslexic learners to gain access to the valuable, but costly, therapy that she has benefited from.
