Family Computer Coding Day – June 1

We welcome ALL students from kindergarten through 8th grade to join us.  Parents are welcome as observers. Teachers are also welcome as observers or participants.  Teacher-participants will receive a copy of the lesson plan.

This program is appropriate for ALL students.  It is especially valuable for those with dyslexia but EVERYONE is encouraged to attend.

Agenda for the day:

  1. John will welcome us and provide an overview of his dyslexia as well as how he discovered that he is dyslexic.
  2. Students (and participating teachers) will design a computer game using basic computer coding “Python” program.
  3. Students (and teachers) will create slime and enhance it using a variety of multi-sensory strategies. Each students will take home his/her slime.
  4. Students will participate in a variety of fun group leadership activities using a variety of multi-sensory strategies.

Parents are encouraged to attend a Q&A session during #4.

John’s book, School Dropout to Harvard, will be available for sale and will sign autographs after the program.

Snacks will be provided.

Please register early because seating and materials are limited.  Online tickets will be available through May 30th at 11:30 pm.  If available, tickets will be sold on day of event.

The overall goal is to develop valuable skills which apply to technology and creative thinking, areas in which dyslexic students excel.  The activities will be valuable for ALL students.
